With the introduction of Ultramarine Blue in about 1830, the most expensive color (lapis lazuli) became one of the least expensive. Ultra Blue is one of the few mineral colors that is completely transparent. Consider mixing Alizarin Permanent instead of fugitive Alizarin Crimson to mix violets.
